A word to indicate possession,

Explosive device used in action,

Go in my depths with pickaxes,

Here in darkness, resources extracted.

Spilled when secrets are disclosed,

Protein pebbles from pods enclosed,

Soft beads may be green or black,

In a fable, grew a ladder for Jack.

Kept crossed when defensive,

Kept wide open when welcoming,

Kept at my length when being cautious,

Kept linked with others in unity.

Loves to sing in deep tones,

Source of oil in days of old,

Loves to swim, but hates the beach,

Hidden except at times I breach.

Many say I’m needed for beauty,

Go through my cycles or you’ll be loopy,

When you’re a worried mess I’m lost,

After international flights, thrown off.

When closed, opportunity has ceased,

When open, communication is free,

Stick your foot in me to get your shot,

Getting past me hinges on a knock.
